Ifyourcomputer’sdisplayrefreshrateislessthan60Hz,awarningmessageappearswhenyou
firststartSMART Notebooksoftware.YoucanchangethedisplayrefreshratebyopeningSystem
Preferences>DisplaysinMac OS Xoperatingsystemsoftware.
WhenyoustartSMART Notebooksoftwarethefirsttime,atutorialfileopensautomatically.Youcan
readthecontentsofthisfiletolearnmoreaboutthesoftwareandthenewfeaturesinthelatest
release.Whenyou’redone,selectFile>Newtocreateanew,blankfile.

WhenyouselectoneofthebuttonsintheToolspanel,additionalbuttonsappear.Forexample,ifyou
selectPens
,thefollowingadditionalbuttonsappear:
PressthePenTypesbuttontoselectapentypeandthenpressoneofthelinetypebuttonstowrite
ordrawdigitalinkinthatlinetype.Youcancustomizeaselectedlinetypeusingtheoptionsinthe
Propertiestabandthensaveyourchangesforfutureuse(seeSavingtoolsettingsonpage77).
Thethreepropertyselectorsbesidethelinetypebuttonsenableyoutosetthecolor,thickness,style
andtransparencyofdigitalink.
IfyouclickanyoftheotherbuttonsintheToolspanel,similarsetsofadditionalbuttonsappear.
Customizingthetoolbar
Youcanadd,removeandchangethepositionofbuttonsonthetoolbarbypressingCustomizethe
toolbar
(seeCustomizingthetoolbaronpage143).
Bydefault,thetoolbarappearsatthetopoftheSMART Notebooksoftwarewindow.However,you
canmoveittothebottomofthewindowbypressingMovetoolbartotop/bottomofwindow
.
Thisisusefulinsituationswhereyouoryourstudentscan’treachthetoolbarwhenit’satthetopof
thewindow.
