importedintoNSM,andthosefilesareconfiguredassharedobjects,whichavoids
duplicationifappliedtomultipledevices.
WithNSM,largebinarydatafilesarenotimportedwiththerestoftheconfiguration
duringanormaldeviceimportoperation.Instead,thefileisrepresentedinthedevice
configurationtreebyastubcontaininganMD5hashandfilelengthdesignation.Ifyou
needtomanagesuchafileinNSM,youuploadthefileseparately,andconfigureitasa
sharedobject.ToincludethefileaspartofthedeviceobjectinNSM,youmustthen
establishalinkbetweenthenodeinthedeviceconfigurationtreeandthesharedbinary
dataobject.Whenyouestablishthelink,apointertothesharedbinarydataobject
replacestheMD5hashandlength.
Afteryouestablishthelink,anUpdateDevicedirectivepushesalllinkedbinarydatafiles
tothedevicealongwiththerestofthedeviceconfiguration.Nobinarydataispushed
fornodesthatstillcontaintheMD5hashandlengthdesignators.
IfyoudonotneedtomanagealargebinarydatafilefromNSM,thenyoudonotneedto
includeitinthedeviceobjectconfiguration.Forexample,supposeyouhaveahosted
JavaappletthatresidesonaSASeriesSSLVPNAppliance,andyouhavenointention
ofupdatingthisapplet.Inthiscase,nosharedobjectcreationorfileuploadisnecessary.
NSMdeviceobjectswillcontainonlytheMD5hashstubfortheseendpoints.Anydelta
configurationoperationbetweenNSMandthedevicewillindicateidenticalconfigurations
becausetheMD5hashinNSMwillmatchthefileonthedevice.Forthesamereasons,

Forthedevicetorecognizeapackagedefinitionfile,youmust:

NamethepackagedefinitionfileMANIFEST.HCIFandincludeitinafoldernamed
META-INF.
2.
CreateaHostCheckerpolicypackagebycreatingaziparchive.Thearchiveshould
includetheMETA-INFfolderthatcontainstheMANIFEST.HCIFfilealongwiththe
interfaceDLLandanyinitializationfiles.Forexample,aHostCheckerpolicypackage
mightcontain:
META-INF/MANIFEST.HCIF
hcif-myPestPatrol.dll
hcif-myPestPatrol.ini
3.
UploadtheHostCheckerpackage(orpackages)totheNSMsharedobject.Youcan
uploadmultiplepolicypackagestoNSMsharedobjects,eachcontainingadifferent
MANIFEST.HCIFfile.
NOTE: AfteryouuploadaHostCheckerpolicypackagetotheNSMshared
object,youcannotmodifythepackagecontents.Instead,youmustmodify
thepackageonyourlocalsystemandthenuploadthemodifiedversion
toNSM.
4.
Implementthepolicyattherealm,role,orresourcepolicylevelsusingtheoptions.
Ifyouwanttoverifythatthepackageitselfisinstalledandrunningontheclient
computer(asopposedtoaspecificpolicyinthepackagepassingorfailing)youcan
usethenameyouspecifiedwhenyouuploadedthepolicypackage(forexample,
myPestPatrol).Toenforceaparticularpolicyinthepackage,usethesyntax
