Onceyouhavedrawntheobject,youcanmovetheobject,deleteit,copyittotheClipboard,or
pasteittoanotherMapwindow.
Also,youcandeletethelastnodeoftheobjectbypressingtheBackspace
key.Ifthereisonlyone
nodeleftintheobject,itwillnotbedeleted.
SpecifyinganObject'sSpatialAttributes
Iftheselectedobjectiseditable(residesinaneditablelayer)thenyoucanspecifyattributesforthe

1. ChooseMap>LayerControlandclicktheEditable
icontomakethelayereditable.
2. SelecttheobjectandchoosetheappropriatestylecommandfromtheOptionsmenu.
ThestylecommandsarealsoavailableontheDrawingToolbar.Thesecommandsalsosetthe
stylesforanysubsequentobjectstobedrawnonthelayer.
3. Saveyourchanges.
Forclosedshapessuchascirclesandsquares,youcanchangethefillpatternandcolor,thestyle
andcoloroftheborder,andthelinewidthoftheborder.Forarcsandlines,youcanchangethe
typeofline,itscolor,andthewidthoftheline.Inaddition,youcanuseinterleavedlinestylesto
createtheappearanceofintersectionsforoverlappingintersectionsandlineswithinasinglelayer.
Interleavedlinestylesareavailableforusewithlinesofthesamestyleandcolor(theycanbe
differentwidths).Interleavedlinestylesarenotavailableforsolidlinesorborders.
Anyeditstoanobject'sdefaultsettingswillbeappliedduringtheentireworksessionuntilyoumake
newchanges.Tosavethesettings,youmustsavethetablewheretheobjectresides.
YoucanalsochangethedisplayofanobjectinLayerControl.IntheLayerControlwindow,select
thelayerandthenclicktheLayerPropertiesbutton.IntheLayerPropertiesdialogbox,under
theLayerDisplaytab,checktheStyleOverridecheckbox.ClicktheStylebuttontobringupthe
appropriatestyledialogbox.
Thesettingsyouspecifyaretemporaryunlessyousavethetabletoaworkspace.

PrintingFillPatterns
Whenitcomestoprintingobjects,somefillpatternsprintfasterthanothers.Ingeneral,thefill
patternsonthetoprowofthepatternlistinthePatterndrop-downlistprintthefastest.Thedifference
inprintingspeedvariesfromprintertoprinter.Thefillpatternsonthetoprowarealsotheonesmost
likelytoplotcorrectlyonpenplotters,althoughresultsdependonwhichplotterdriveryouuse.For

Drawing Polygons and Polylines
Drawingpolygonsisdifferentthandrawingothershapesbecauseyouarecreatingaregionon
whichyoucanperformothereditingandanalysis.
Forinstance,youwanttocreateschooldistrictsforyourmap.Youhaveastreetmapofyourtown
toguideyouindefiningtheschooldistrictboundaries.
