CreatingDropShadowsforLayoutObjects
Whenyoumoveorresizethelayoutobject,theshadowdoesnotresizeormove.Youmaynotwant
tocreateadropshadowuntilyouaresureofthepositionofitssource.
Tocreateadropshadow:
1. ClicktheobjectwiththeSelecttoolorholddowntheShift
keyandclickonseveralobjects,or
chooseSelectAllfromtheQuerymenutoselectalltheobjectsinthelayout.
2. OntheLayoutmenu,pointtoCreateDropShadowstoopentheCreateDropShadowdialog
box.
3. Typethesizeofthehorizontalandverticaloffsetforthedropshadow.
4. ClickOK.Thedropshadowappearsbehindtheselectedobject.
5. Sinceadropshadowisjustarectangleobject,youcandeleteitorchangeitsfillpatternandline
style.

Oneofthemostdifficulttasksingeneratinggoodoutputissettingthescaleofthemap.Thereare
twowaystosetthemapscale.ThefirstmethodistochooseMapmenuandclickChangeView.
Thisscalesettingaffectstheon-screenscaleofyourmapaccordingtoyourmonitorsize.Thisscale
settingisnotusedasoften,becausegenerallythescaleonscreendoesnotneedtobeexact.Use
theon-screenscalewhenyouaremakingapresentationthatwillbevieweddirectlyinMapInfoPro.
TheMapWindowPreferencesettingUseCartographicScaleaffectstheentriesinthe
ChangeViewdialogbox.
Note:
Accuratescaleismoreimportantontheprintedmap.Togetthecorrectscaleforoutput,youmust
coordinatetheMapwindowwiththeLayoutwindow.Youmustalsodecideonthedesiredend
result.Forexample,youmaywantamapthathasa1:25000scaleandfitsinanineinchlayout
frame.Ifthisisthecase,youwillhavetoalterthezoomlevelofyourmaptofittheseconditions.
Or,inthecasewhereyoumustshowasetdistanceacrossthemap,youmayhavetoallowfora
largerpagesize.Thefollowingtwoformulaswillhelpyousettherightmapzoom,scale,andframe
width.
