Appendix 5: General Instructions for
Analysis Within a Stratiﬁed Landscape
1. To get started
a. Double click on SnagPRO.exe.
b. Click on the Logs button under Habitat Component.
c. From the Measurement menu, select Metric or English.
d. From the Method menu select the sampling method: LIM or SPM.
e. From the Formula menu select the variable of interest: Density,
Length, Percent Cover, Tally, Volume, or Weight.
f. Open your data ﬁle by clicking on Open under the File menu.
g. Highlight the name of your CSV ﬁle and click Open.
h. Notice that segment and section ﬁeld names have been added and
computed for each column.
2. To set criteria to all strata
a. Click on tab labeled Stratum 1.
b. Click on the Apply and Sort button.
c. Enter minimum LED in message box labeled LED.
d. Enter minimum length of logs to be considered in message box labeled
Length. Enter “0” if all lengths will be considered or log lengths were
e. Enter maximum value for condition class (or decay class) in message
box labeled Condition (this box does not appear when calculating
f. Enter numeric code of log species you would like to exclude in box
3. Calculate statistics
a. Click on Summarize Statistics page.
b. On Summarize Statistics page, under heading “Analyze Data From,”
click on Stratum 1.
c. Then click the Calculate Statistics button found directly below.
d. Repeat 3b and 3c for each stratum.
e. Click on page labeled Optimal.
f. Check desired level of precision and t-value; if different values are
desired, enter them and repeat steps 3a through 3d.
g. Enter brief description of stratum and log characteristics for
h. Examine Optimal page for statistics, estimated sample size required,
additional samples required, and optimal transect length for stratum 1.
