A. Introduction:
1. FastStone has two separate features that you can use to automatically create Wallpaper for your
desktop:
a. Standard Wallpaper:
(1) Very easy to use
(2) Places the selected image on your desktop
(3) Offers no options as to size, placement, etc.
(4) Provides an easy way to clear the Wallpaper from your desktop
b. Wallpaper Anywhere:
(1)
Very nicely implemented by FastStone’s developer
(2) Still quite easy to use, but very comprehensive
(3) Places the wallpaper image on the desktop
(4) Permits use of any number of images:
(a) I think that this is a fantastic option
(b) You can use Wallpaper Anywhere to make a collage for you to use:

C. Wallpaper Anywhere:
1. Create Wallpaper:
a. Introduction:
(1) To keep things very simple, I have written this section so that it covers the steps required to
use Wallpaper Anywhere to create wallpaper using a single image
(2) If you want to jump right in and create wallpaper using multiple images, just follow the steps
in the this section, except:
(a) Instead of selecting one image, select multiple images before you open the Wallpaper
Anywhere window - you can add additional images later, but I have found it to be much
easier to select all of the images at the beginning
(b)
Apply any or all of Wallpaper Anywhere’s editing features to each image separately
- this
is a great option
b. Create Wallpaper:
(1) Click on a thumbnail for the image that you want to use as Wallpaper
(2) Click on Tools on the Menu bar and a dropdown menu will appear
(3) Point to Wallpaper and a flyout menu will appear
(4) Click on Set Wallpaper Anywhere On Desktop and the Wallpaper Anywhere dialog box will
appear and the selected image will be displayed in the Preview window

(6)
If you are using one image for your wallpaper, you can click and drag the “handles” to zoom
in on the image to such an extent that only a particular part of the image shows as your
wallpaper - very nice indeed!
(7) Click on one of the Border presets in the Presets window and that border effect will be shown
on the image in the Preview window - keep clicking on other presets to see the how the
effects look on your image - here is the way mine looked:
(8) If you want to change the background color from the blue default color:
(a) Click on the Background
button and the Color Picker will appear
(b) Pick a color that you think would look good (it is very easy to change your selection of
color
if you don’t like the way it looks) and click on the OK button
(c) Repeat these two steps until you get the perfect color for the background
(9) If you want to make the image partially transparent, slide the
Opacity Slider to the left - there are times when decreased opacity will create a very nice
effect
(10) To preview your creation, click and hold down the Hold Down To Preview
button to simulate how your creation will look on your desktop - my hat is off to the
developer of FastStone for providing such a useful feature
(11) When you are happy with your creation, and want it to become the wallpaper on your
desktop, click on the Set As Wallpaper
button and the FastStone will do all of the
work for you
(12) If you want to save your creation as a file, proceed to the next section, otherwise, just click
on the Close button to close the Wallpaper Anywhere dialog box
c. Save the Wallpaper image as a separate file:
(1) Click on the Save As File
button and the Save As dialog box will appear
(2) Use standard procedures to:
(3) Select the Save In folder of your choice
(4) Assign a file name (in the Object Name box) that you like
(5) Assign the file format:
(6) Use the dropdown arrow at the right end of the Save As Type box to select the file format
(7) I suggest that you use the JPEG file format, unless you have a good reason to use another file
format

d. Clear Wallpaper - If you want to clear the wallpaper from your desktop, click on the Clear
Wallpaper
button and FastStone will do the rest
e. Close the Wallpaper Anywhere dialog box by clicking on the close button
39. Slide Shows
A. Explanation:
1. FastStone has two completely separate slide show creation functions:
a. One of these functions is called the Slideshow (covered in this section of this tutorial)
b. The second of these functions is called the Slide Show Builder (covered in the next section of
this tutorial call Create And Save A Slide Show)
2. The Slideshow function:
a. The Slideshow function allows you to very quickly create and view some neat looking slide
shows complete with transitions and music, however, you can not save the shows that you create
using this function
b. If you want to save your slide show, use the Slide Show Builder function which is covered in
the next section of this tutorial
c. The Slideshow function provides a very nice way to view the images that are in a folder, or to
view the images that are in multiple folders
d. You can select an image as the starting point for a show, but you can not limit the show to just a
group of selected images - if you select an image as the starting point, all of the rest of the
images in that folder will be included in the slide show
B. Create a basic Slide Show using the Slideshow function:
1. Select the folder that contains the images that you would like to include in the slide show:
a. In the Folder Tree Window, click on the folder that contains the images
2. Select the first image that you want to use in the slide show:
a. By default, the first image in the folder that you selected will be automatically selected
b. If you want to use a different image to start your slide show, click on its thumbnail in the
Thumbnail Window

b. Change some of the default settings:
(1) You can, of course, make any changes that you like
(2) If you would like to follow along with me, make the following changes:
(a) Deselect the Show Text Option:
Click on the Show Text checkbox to deselect this option:
When this option is deselected, no text will appear when your images are displayed in
the slide show
If you decide that you want to display text on the images:
Leave this checkbox selected
You can display text that gives the filename, datetime stamp, and EXIF metadata
Click on the Ellipses
at the right end of this option to display the Slideshow Text
Settings dialog box on which you can selected from a large list of Variables - I will
leave it to you to investigate the many Text display options that are available

(b) Click on the Ellipses

(this graphic shows the default options):

None - click on this button if you do not want to use any transitions
Default - click on this button to select only the default transition setting (Fade In and
Out)
If you are following along with me, click on the Default button
Click on the checkbox in front of Wipe Left To Right and the Preview window will
show how this transition will look
For our purposes, we will select the first five Transition Effects
(d) Notice that you can use the Effect Duration box
to select the
duration of the Transition:
Click on the dropdown arrow at the right end of the Effect Duration box and a
dropdown menu will appear
Notice that there are five choices available - we will click on 4:Longer to select this
option
(4) We are finished making changes to the Transition Effects, so click on the OK button and the
Transition Effects Selection dialog box will close and our setting will be saved
c. Play the Slideshow - click on the Play button and the show will begin
d. Pause/Resume the show:
(1) Click on the Space Bar on your keyboard to pause the show
(2) Click on the Space Bar again to resume the show
