• DefaultDBMSConnection-SelectthischeckboxtosetaDBMSconnectionthatwillopeneach
timeyoubeginaMapInfoProfessionalsession.ClickSettoselecttheconnection.
• DisplayQuickStartDialog-SelectthischeckboxtodisplaytheQuickStartdialogbox
automaticallywhenyoustartMapInfoProfessional.Thischeckboxisselectedbydefault.Clear
theDisplayQuickStartDialogcheckboxtopreventitfromdisplayingwhenyoustartsubsequent
MapInfosessions.
3. ClickOKtoclosethedialogsandsaveyoursettings.
CreatingaStartupWorkspace
STARTUP.WORisthenameyougivetoaworkspacefromwhichMapInfoProfessionalisrun.Youcan
createitsothatMapInfoProfessionalautomaticallyopensvarioustablesandwindowsonstartup.When
youuseSTARTUP.WOR,MapInfoProfessionalperformsthestartupactionsregardlessofwhatyoudid
inyourpreviousMapInfoProfessionalsessionorhowyouhavesetpreferencesforMAPINFO.WOR.
Tocreateaworkspace:
1. Openthetablesandwindowsyouwantinyourworkspace.Sizeandpositionthemasyouplease.
2. OntheFilemenu,pointtoSaveWorkspace.
3. Nameyourworkspace"Startup"andsavetheworkspaceintoyour"home"directory.By"home"
directorywemeanyourprivateWindowsdirectory.
WhenyourunMapInfoProfessional,thefollowingoccursintheordershown:
1. IfthereisaSTARTUP.WORintheMapInfoProfessionalprogramdirectory,itisrun.
2. Then,ifthereisaSTARTUP.WORinyourhomedirectoryitisrun.(WhenthereisaSTARTUP.WOR
inboththeMapInfoProfessionalprogramdirectoryandyourhomedirectory,bothwill=run.)
3. Then,ifanyfilenamesaregivenonthecommandline-orifyoudouble-clickadocument,MapInfo
Professionalloadsthosefiles.MapInfoProfessionalsupportaddingworkspaces(.WOR),running
applications(.APP),andopeningdatabases(.TAB)onthecommandline.
4. OnlyifMapInfoProfessionaldidnotaddaworkspaceorrunaprogramfromthecommandlinedoes
itthenchecktheAutoLoadpreferenceandloadMAPINFOW.WORfromtheuser'shomedirectory.
Whenthepreferenceisset,andthefileisfound,itisloaded.Notethatifwehadaworkspaceor
applicationonthecommandline,weskiptheAutoLoad.
5. Finally,ifMapInfoProfessionaldidnotloadaworkspaceorrunanapplicationfromthecommand
line,anditdidnotAutoLoadMAPINFOW.WOR,thenMapInfoProfessionalshowstheToolpalette.
SettingYourDatabaseConnectionPreferences
Ifyouhaveafavoritedatabaseconnectionsetting,wehaveestablishedastartuppreferencesettingto
createthatconnectionautomaticallyatthebeginningofyoursession.
Tosetyourdatabaseconnectionstartuppreference:
1. IntheOptionsmenu,clickPreferencesandthenStartuptoopentheStartupPreferencesdialog
box.
2. ClickSettoopentheSelectDBMSConnectionlist.
3. Selectanexistingentryinthelist.ClickOKtoacceptthepreference.
Toestablishanewdatabaseconnection.ClickNewandselecttheconnectiontypeyouwantto
searchfor.
• IfyouselectODBC,theSelectDataSourcedialogboxdisplaysandyoucansearchforthe
databasefromthisdialogbox.SelectthedatabaseconnectionandclickOKtoreturntotheStartup
Preferencesdialogbox.
