with your document. For example it will show page numbers and information about
process steps. Further more it gives warnings. These are of a typographical orderand
tells you when line breaking is not successful. All information on processing is stored
in a log file thatcan be used forreviewing warnings and errors and the respective line
numbers wheretheyoccurin yourfile.
When processing is succesful

produces a new file, with the extension .dvi. If
you run myfile.tex, a file myfile.dvi is produced. The abbreviation dvi stands for
DeviceIndepent. This means that the filecan be processed by aprinter driver to make
the filesuitable for printing or viewing. Thedvi file can betransformed to a
