s
These popular scissors use a patented process, where titanium is
bonded to a stainless steel core to produce a sharper, more
corrosion-resistant, longer-lasting edge. Lighter and safer
around ropes than a knife, these large fin-point scissors will
clip on to a carabiner and can be used for cutting clothing or a harness when treating a victim.
We’ve even used them to cut a loaded 7/16-in. (11 mm) rope in one snip.

hold several instruments or a pocket knife and pen. It can be fastened to a belt
with the belt loop on the back or attached quickly with a hook-and-loop strap.
Reinforced to hold its shape, it features a quick-release hook-and-loop strap to
hold its contents. The curved shape gives it a streamlined profile so that it won’t

At  CMC, We Never Stop Testing
172
CMC Rescue’s instructors and
engineers are always asking
"what would happen if…?”
We also get a lot of what-if questions
from Rescue School students and
customers. Since we’re committed to
answering as many of them as possible,
we’ve invested in extensive product
testing equipment. Our test tower allows
us to conduct product performance tests,
such as the NFPA harness static test and
drop test. We are also able to test belay
and anchor systems with dynamic or
static loading. As we experiment with
new design ideas and different rescue
systems, we’re able to see what works
best from a laboratory perspective.
Then, through field trials and feedback
from students in our Rescue School,
we incorporate real-world input to
create the best products possible.
A recent addition to the CMC Rescue
Test Lab is this vertical hydraulic test ram.
It’s shown here testing the strength of
the attachment points on the CMC
Stainless Steel Rescue Litter.

Came to Be
Many of the activities for which CMC Rescue products are used pose a very substantial risk
of serious injury or death. Be certain you carefully review all of the following information.
Products manufactured and sold by CMC Rescue, Inc. are intended for use by professionals
trained and experienced in the use, inspection and maintenance of these products. All
individuals using CMC Rescue products must have this same professional level of skill.
Technical rescue, rappelling, climbing and the training involved are very hazardous activities.
Each situation has its own unique conditions and must be evaluated by those present. Effective
risk management comes from experience, proper training and good personal judgment.
Limits of Liability
CMC Rescue, Inc. is not liable for any damages arising from abuse
or improper use of the equipment, failure to follow adequate safety precautions or breach of
the duty of either the purchaser or user. Adequate training and judgment are needed to reduce
the risks inherent in the use of this equipment. Since these risks are out of the control of CMC
Rescue, the liability shifts to the user and purchaser.
Duty of Purchaser and User
It is the responsibility of the purchaser and the user of
products manufactured and sold by CMC Rescue, Inc. to:
t Read the product instructions and labels and follow them. If you do not have a copy of the
instructions, request a copy from CMC Rescue, Inc., 6740 Cortona Drive, Goleta, CA 93117.
t Inspect the product immediately after purchase and before and after each use. Read the note
on inspection below.
t Receive training in the proper use of the equipment and in the appropriate techniques. Proper
training includes safety procedures, limitations of the equipment, inspection of equipment and
risk management. If you are not competent in the use of the product, do not use it. See the
note on training below.
t Determine if the product is suitable for its intended use and that it meets all applicable
standards and regulations. The manufacturer can provide assistance but cannot be expected
to be knowledgeable of all worldwide standards and regulations.
t Use good judgment and do not exceed the limitations of the user's skill or of the equipment.
t Use adequate safety precautions, including belays and backup systems. Practice risk
management at all times.
t Do not alter the product in any way. Repairs must be done only according to the manufacturer's
instructions or returned to the manufacturer for repair. Alterations may void warranty.
t If the purchaser is not the user of the product, the purchaser must provide each user with
a copy of this notice and the product instructions. If additional copies of this notice or the
product instructions are needed, they can be obtained from CMC Rescue, Inc.
Inspection
Each department involved in rescue operations is expected to have a policy for
inspecting life-safety equipment. Inspection should be no less than after each use, and inspec-
tions must be done by personnel that meet the department's training standard for inspecting
life-safety equipment. Inspection dates should be recorded on a tag attached to the equipment
or in the equipment log. Each user should be trained in equipment inspection and should do a
cursory inspection before each use.
Training
It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that the user is adequately
and competently trained in the use of the product. Training is available from several sources,
including the CMC Rescue School (see catalog pages 6-7 for school information). The
publications section of this catalog also includes a variety of reference guides to assist
in the proper selection and use of the products.
