ONE VISION. ONE VOICE. | 2014 Sustainability Report t 3
In January 2015, Verso acquired
NewPage Holdings Inc. for $1.4 billion.
In doing so, we created a stronger,
more sustainable company with an
effective strategy to reduce operating
costs, while ensuring that our
customers continue to benefit from
the distinctive quality and service that
they have come to expect from us.
While we will continue to experience
increased competition from electronic
substitution for print and from
international producers, our larger,
more efficient organization is better
positioned to face these challenges.
At the time of the acquisition,
Verso changed its name from Verso
Paper Corp. to Verso Corporation.
Verso is, at its heart, a paper
company and we remain committed
to this business. This name change
symbolizes our intention to broaden
our business platform and seek
alternative revenue streams to
augment our core printing and
specialty papers and pulp segments.
The Verso Foundation document,
which is the framework for Verso’s
vision, mission, core values and
principles, continues to guide our
everyday decisions. It aligns our entire
organization with one vision and
one voice, keeping us focused on
the things that matter most. Among
these is respecting a sustainable
balance among economic,
environmental and social needs.
Beyond our business strategy
described above, we focus our
broader sustainability efforts in
four key areas.
1. CARING FOR PEOPLE
Being “safe from the start” is not
simply a priority at Verso. It tops
our list of core values, because
nothing is more important than our
employees’ safety. We also take pride
in being a good corporate citizen,
fulfilling our responsibility to do what
we can to promote healthy, thriving
communities where we work, live
2. USING RESOURCES
We strive to go above and beyond
legal and regulatory requirements to

4. SERVING OUR CUSTOMERS
We‘re always looking for innovative
ways to help our customers meet both
their emerging business needs and
their sustainability objectives.
