The
Export Map
command is selected from the
File
menu and
TIFF
is
chosen from the
Save
dialog box
File Type
drop-down list. This causes the
Export TIFF (Tagged Image File Format)
dialog box to be displayed.
The
Output Zone colours (8-bit palette)
option is chosen:
If you were executing this command from the Script window the statement
would be:
ExportMap “1998 Precipitation”
To “1998Precip8bit.tiff”

The TIFF file that results has the full range of colours of the original map
layer condensed into 256 colours. Much of the colour range is lost but the
file is significantly smaller than it would be if it were exported as a 24-bit
colour image. It can be used in many other software applications such as
desktop publishing, image processing, GIS, illustration, and drawing
