TheMove/CopyFieldstaballowsyoutomoveandcopyfielddata.Bothcommandsapplytoallofthereferencesthatare"show-
ing"intheselectedLibrarygroup.

TheMoveFieldsoptionallowsyoutomovetheentirecontentsofonefieldtoanotherfieldwithinareference.Alldata,
includinganyformattingthatyouappliedtothesourcefield,ismovedtothedestinationfield.
Caution:YoucannotundotheMoveoperation.Onceyouperformthisoperation,EndNoteremovesthesourcefieldfrom
allthereferencesintheLibrarywindow.Werecommendthatyoumakeabackupcopyofyourlibrarybeforemaking
changes.

TheCopyoptionallowsyoutocopytheentirecontentsofonefieldtoanotherfieldwithinareference.Boththesourcefield
andthedestinationfieldwillcontainthesamedata.Alldataretainsanyformattingthatyouappliedtothesourcefieldand
tothedestinationfield.
Note:TheMove/CopyFieldsfeatureisusefulwhenyouwanttomoveorcopyfielddatainasetofimported/exportedref-
erencesfromanonlinedatabase.
Tomove/copythecontentsofonefieldtoanother:
1. Determinewhichreferencesyouwanttomodify.Selectagroupandmakesureonlythosereferencesareshowinginthe
Librarywindow.
2. FromtheToolsmenu,selecttheChange/Move/CopyFieldscommand.
3. ClicktheMove/CopyFieldstab.
4. Inthedialogthatappears:
Selectthe"MoveField"radiobuttontomoveinformationtoanotherfield.
Selectthe"CopyField"radiobuttontocopyinformationtoanotherfield.
5. Usethe"From"listtoselectthesourcefieldfromwhichyouwanttomoveorcopythedata.
6. Usethe"To"listtoselectthedestinationfieldtowhereyouwanttomoveorcopythedata.
7. Selectoneofthefollowingoptions:

Insertafterfield'stext(thedefaultoption)
l
Insertbeforefield'stext
l
Replaceentirefield
8. ClickMovetomoveorcopythedatafromonefieldtoanotherfieldwithineachreferencethatiscurrentlyshowinginthe
Librarywindow.ClickCanceltostoptheoperation.
WhenusingtheMoveoption,youhavethechoiceofinsertingthemovedtextbeforeorafterthedatainthedestinationfieldor
replacingtheentirecontentsofthedestinationfield.Inthelattercase,youhavetheadditionaloptionofwhetherornottomove
emptyfields.Ifyouclear"Don’tmoveemptyfields,"checkbox,thenanyreferencewithanemptyoriginatingfielddeletesthe
contentsofthecorrespondingdestinationfield(andtherebymakingitemptyaswell).Ifthisoptionisturnedon,thecontentsof
thedestinationfieldwillnotbedeletediftheoriginatingfieldisempty.
