Adding a Document
by Pasting
You can paste a document in the default format. 
To paste a document from the Windows Clipboard: 
1. Move the desired data to the Windows Clipboard. Typically, this 
is performed through a program’s Edit menu, and some 
programs have shortcuts to accomplish this function.
2. Right-click the application name in the Application view. From 
the shortcut menu that appears, select New Document and then 
Clipboard Paste. 
If there is not a valid page in the Windows Clipboard, the 
Clipboard Paste option is dimmed. One or more of the following 
may have occurred: 
• No document is available to be added.
• Text is on the Clipboard and the Allow paste text option on the 
COLD tab of the Configuration dialog box has not been 
enabled. For more information on configuring the Allow paste 
text option, consult your system administrator or refer to the 
"Configuring Workstations" section of the 
ApplicationXtender
Installation Guide.
• The data source in which an application is located is not 
active.
Note: If the menu option is unavailable, verify that the data has been 
moved to the Clipboard successfully. The Clipboard viewer (supplied 
with Windows) can be used to view the contents of the Clipboard at any 
time. 
3. If the Reason Code Required dialog box appears, select the check 
boxes for the functionality that you plan to use when the 
document has been created (Print, Export, and/or Email), enter a 
comment about the document you are creating in the text box, 
and click OK.

4. If the Display As Icon check box is available, indicate how you 
want the new document to be displayed and edited. You have the 
following choices: 
• To display the object as an icon, select the Display As Icon 
check box.
• To display the object as its content, disable the Display As Icon 
check box.
5. Click OK. 
6. If the Reason Code Required dialog box appears, select the check 
boxes for the functionality that you will need when the document 
has been created (Print, Export, and/or Email), enter a comment 
about the document you are creating in the text box, and click OK.

Object
You can create new documents by inserting data from applications 
that support ActiveX embeddable objects into AppXtender. For 
information, refer to the following topics:

Note: The Insert Object input method for creating documents is not available 
for either the _RSTAMP or _FORMS applications.
Inserting a New File as
an Object
To add a document as a new object: 
1. Right-click the application name in the Application view. From 
the shortcut menu that appears, select New Document and then 
Insert Object. The Insert Object dialog box appears, listing all 
ActiveX server applications installed on your workstation.

2. Select Create New. 
3. Under Object Type, select the name of the application that you 
want to use to create the new document.
4. Indicate how you want the new document to be displayed and 
edited. You have the following choices: 
• To display the object as an icon, select the Display As Icon

check box.
5. Click OK.

8. Complete the object. 
9. To return to the AppXtender Document Display view, from the 
File menu, select Close. 
• If you enabled the Display As Icon check box, the object 
appears as an icon in AppXtender.

10. In Index view, enter the index information for the new document. 
Then click Save. 
Inserting an Existing
File as an Object
To add a new document as an object from an existing file: 
1. In Application view, right-click the application name to display 
the shortcut menu. 
2. From the shortcut menu, select New Document and then Insert 
Object. The Insert Object dialog box appears.
3. Select Create from File. 
4. Type the path and file name for the file you want to insert, or click 
Browse and find the file.

Adding a Document 
by Importing a File
You can create a new document by importing an existing file. You can 
import any file type. If AppXtender supports the file type that you 
import, the content of the file appears in the Document Display view. 
Supported foreign files can be viewed in the Document Display view 
using the AppXtender Web Verity KeyView. The AppXtender Web 
Verity KeyView, when enabled on the View tab of the AppXtender 
Configuration dialog box, allows AppXtender to display the contents 
of a supported foreign file without having to open a third party 
viewer. If the AppXtender Web Verity KeyView is not enabled for 
foreign files, the files display as icons in the Document Display view.
File types that are not supported by AppXtender and are not 
supported using the AppXtender Web Verity KeyView require a 
third-party viewer to display the contents of the file. 
For more information on viewing support for file formats in 
AppXtender, refer to “Support for Viewing of Imported Files in 
AppXtender” on page 143.
You can import files by using the Import File option in the Document 
menu, by dragging the files from the Windows Explorer, or by 
dragging file attachments from e-mail messages in Microsoft 
Outlook. For instructions, refer to the following topics:

Note: The _RSTAMP and _FORMS applications do not support
